Cultural and archaeological museum developments in Turkey
Overview
Cultural and archaeological developments in Turkey have been highlighted through new museum initiatives. In August 2026, the Ankara Ethnography Museum launched an exhibition titled ‘Elde Vefa, Gözde Zarafet: Takı Sanatının 12. 000 Yıllık Öyküsü’. The display features 550 artifacts spanning 12,000 years of jewelry history, from the Epipaleolithic Period to the Ottoman Empire, including 276 pieces being shown to the public for the first time.
Following this, in September 2026, the Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum officially opened to the public. The facility houses approximately 2,000 artifacts across archaeology, ethnography, and numismatic sections. The new museum is located in a historic structure built in 1885, replacing a previous museum building that was closed after being heavily damaged during a terrorist attack in 2016.
