Elbe river water levels rise across Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt

Water levels of the Elbe river are rising significantly across Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt following a period of extreme low water levels in mid-August. In Dresden, the water level reached 128 centimeters on Saturday evening, nearly tripling from the 45-centimeter low recorded on August 17.

In Magdeburg, the water level at the Strombrücke rose to 54 centimeters after hitting a low of 34 centimeters earlier in the week. Similarly, in Torgau, the level increased from 32 to 63 centimeters. This rise is attributed to recent rainfall in the region.

While the water levels have increased, authorities note that current levels do not constitute a flood. The rise has also led to a decrease in wildfire risks in Saxony-Anhalt. The increased water levels may also impact river transport, which had been previously hindered by the drought.
