Elbląg collects 28 tons of electronic waste via recycling project
In Elbląg, Poland, the ‘Electric Waste’ project has successfully collected 28 tons of electronic waste in 2025. The initiative utilizes 29 red containers placed in high-traffic areas such as schools, workplaces, and shops to facilitate the disposal of small electronics and batteries.
Piotr Kowal, Vice President of Elbląg, noted that the project provides a convenient solution for residents to dispose of equipment responsibly. The collected materials are used for recycling, with the Odzyskaj Środowisko Foundation repurposing some components into unique items like chess sets, jewelry, and beehives.
The initiative aims to mitigate the environmental and health risks associated with improper disposal, addressing a broader issue where experts estimate hundreds of millions of unused or broken electronic devices remain in Polish households.
