Electronic waste management initiatives in Poland
Overview
Municipalities in Poland are implementing specialized infrastructure to manage electronic waste through dedicated collection projects.
In Bydgoszcz, the city is preparing to install 60 specialized, color-coded containers known as ‘elektropaki’ across residential estates to collect small electronics, batteries, and chargers. This initiative is being developed alongside the establishment of a fourth stationary Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point (PSZOK) to align with Ministry of Climate and Environment recommendations.
In Elbląg, the ‘Electric Waste’ project has already collected 28 tons of electronic waste using 29 red containers placed in schools, workplaces, and shops. According to Vice President Piotr Kowal, the project provides a convenient disposal solution for residents. Collected materials are being repurposed by the Odzyskaj Środowisko Foundation into items such as jewelry, beehives, and chess sets to mitigate environmental and health risks.
