Elche stadium surroundings revamp and Vigo Arena plan modernize Spanish venues
In Elche, a €3.2 million project has begun to redevelop the 25,000 m² area around the Martínez Valero stadium. The five‑month works will add new roads, two roundabouts, wider sidewalks, upgraded lighting, urban furniture, parking facilities and expanded green zones, including a new 375‑metre‑long avenue named after Manuel Martínez Valero. The aim is to match the stadium’s capacity of over 30,000 spectators with a modern, pedestrian‑friendly environment.
Meanwhile, Vigo’s mayor Abel Caballero announced a plan to build a 16,000‑seat multi‑purpose venue, the Vigo Arena, on a 10,000 m² site in the Guixar‑Santa Tegra district. Designed to be partially underground with a green‑covered roof, the arena will become the largest indoor venue in north‑west Spain, competing with A Coruña’s Coliseum and serving audiences from Galicia, northern Portugal, Asturias, León and Zamora.
