Spain's large‑scale venue development

In late July 2026 the city of Vigo announced the approval of the Vigo Arena, a largely underground, 15,000‑16,000‑seat multi‑use venue to be built on a 10,000 m² site in the Guixar‑Santa Tegra district. The design includes a public plaza roof, extensive green space, parking for 1,500 vehicles and aims to serve concerts, sport and cultural events for north‑west Iberia. Construction was slated to begin within two years.

A few days later a separate project in Elche was reported: a €3.2 million redevelopment of the area surrounding the Martínez Valero stadium, adding roads, roundabouts, sidewalks, lighting, parking and a 375‑metre avenue. The revamp is intended to match the stadium’s 30,000‑plus capacity with a modern, pedestrian‑friendly environment. The same report also reiterated the Vigo Arena plan, positioning it as the largest indoor venue in north‑west Spain and a regional competitor to A Coruña’s Coliseum. Together the snapshots show a coordinated push in Spain to upgrade major sports and entertainment infrastructure, linking new construction in Vigo with parallel upgrades elsewhere such as Elche.
