Elderly victims report financial fraud in Mexico and Colombia

Two separate incidents of financial fraud targeting elderly individuals have been reported in Mexico and Colombia.

In Mexico, an elderly woman reported losing a 33,000 peso loan at a Coppel store in Córdoba. After authorizing the loan, a man posing as a helpful bystander convinced her to reinsert her card and enter her PIN at an ATM. The individual then swapped her card for another, resulting in the theft of the funds. While the bank initially claimed no action could be taken, a manager eventually agreed to cancel and replace the card after family members intervened.

In Colombia, a 68-year-old retired teacher in Villavicencio is disputing 24 million pesos in fraudulent credit card charges from Davivienda. The victim claims two large transactions occurred in Medellín while she was in Villavicencio. The bank has refused to reverse the charges, citing that the purchases were made physically with the card. The victim has filed multiple formal petitions to contest the debt, which she maintains she did not incur.
