Elderly welfare and care needs highlighted in Poland

In Poland, discussions regarding the welfare of the elderly are highlighting both the risks of abuse and the growing need for institutional support. The Projekt Starsid Foundation reports that senior citizens are a highly vulnerable group with low awareness of what constitutes abuse. Many victims do not identify their experiences as violence, often due to a lack of historical discourse on the subject or a fear of loneliness and dependency on their abusers.

Addressing these demographic shifts, local officials in Radziechowy-Wieprz have proposed the creation of a dedicated senior care center. Councilor Alicja Noga suggested repurposing an unused facility in Brzuśnik to provide support for elderly residents who lack family care. The proposal is currently in the preliminary stage, requiring cost analyses and technical assessments to determine feasibility.
