Elderly welfare initiatives launched in Brazil

In São Gonçalo do Amarante, the 'Programa Viver Melhor' is expanding its reach to rural areas to improve the quality of life for senior citizens. Managed by the Municipal Secretariat for the Elderly and People with Disabilities, the program provides functional exercises accompanied by music at community centers such as Poço de Pedra. The initiative aims to strengthen both physical and mental health, helping participants combat issues like depression and physical decline.

In Umuarama, the Public Ministry of Paraná and the Municipal Council for the Rights of the Elderly (CMDPI) have launched the 'Rede Viva' project. This intersectoral initiative focuses on preventing the institutionalization of elderly individuals by strengthening local protection networks. The project seeks to integrate social assistance, health, sports, and culture services to ensure seniors can remain within their family and community environments through better preventive care and coordinated public service mapping.
