Elderly woman hospitalized in critical condition after vehicle accidents in Peru
Two separate incidents involving elderly pedestrians and vehicles have been reported in Peru.
In the Rímac district of Lima, an 82-year-old woman is in intensive care following an accident involving Malek Rifai Stewart. The victim sustained skull and hip fractures, as well as a blood clot in her head. While police reports suggest the woman may have crossed the road unexpectedly, making it difficult for the driver to brake, her family is seeking full responsibility for her medical expenses, expressing concern that mandatory accident insurance (SOAT) may not cover the total costs.
In Tacna, a man approximately 70 years old sustained a head injury at the intersection of Industrial and Tarata avenues. Security footage shows the man moving back and forth before falling near a stationary yellow car. While initially reported as a hit-and-run, investigators are working to determine if the man fell due to his own movements or if there was contact with the vehicle. The victim was transported to Hipólito Unanue Hospital by police after an ambulance was unavailable.
