Elderly Woman Rescued in Lecce After Son’s Call from Germany

An 85‑year‑old woman in the province of Lecce was found collapsed on the floor of her second‑storey home after multiple falls left her unable to call for help. Her 58‑year‑old son, living in Germany, repeatedly tried to reach her by phone, then alert 112, prompting a rapid response.

Carabinieri from the Surbo station and firefighters from the Lecce provincial command arrived within minutes. Because the house was set within a wooded area and enclosed by a perimeter wall, rescuers used a telescopic ladder and entered through the roof to reach the interior. The woman was found confused, in pain, with abrasions and blood on her arm, and was immediately taken by ambulance to Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce. Medical staff placed her under observation; her condition was reported as reassuring and not life‑threatening.

The coordinated effort of the son’s alert, nearby neighbours, the Carabinieri, the fire brigade and emergency medical services turned a potentially fatal situation into a successful rescue.
