Eldorado Research Institute to host South America’s first quantum computer
The Eldorado Research Institute has reached an agreement to acquire a quantum computer from IQM Quantum Computers, marking the first deployment of such technology in South America. The system, an IQM Spark featuring 54 qubits, is scheduled to be installed at Eldorado’s headquarters in Campinas, Brazil, during the first quarter of 2027.
The acquisition was facilitated during a Brazil-Finland mission led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The installation will provide researchers, engineers, and industrial partners with direct on-site access to the hardware, as well as remote connectivity to IQM’s European cloud infrastructure.
Eldorado intends to utilize the system to explore quantum algorithms, develop expertise in hardware and software, and investigate hybrid computing architectures that integrate high-performance computing with artificial intelligence. The facility's location near São Paulo is expected to foster collaboration across various sectors, including automotive, energy, fintech, agribusiness, and healthcare.
