Election Commission extends voter list revision deadlines in Delhi and Maharashtra
The Election Commission of India has extended the deadlines for filing claims and objections during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Delhi and Maharashtra. In Delhi, the deadline for filing claims and objections has been moved to October 30, 2026, with a final disposal date of November 30, 2026. In Maharashtra, the deadline for claims and objections is now October 12, 2026, with a final disposal date of November 10, 2026, and the final voter list is scheduled for publication on November 16.
To simplify the verification process for voters who received notices regarding unmapped status or logical discrepancies, the Commission announced that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes to collect necessary documents and upload them to the ECINet system. This measure aims to reduce the need for voters to appear in person before Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), except in extraordinary circumstances where hearings may be conducted online.
Additionally, District Election Officers have been directed to establish help desks and special camps to assist vulnerable populations, including laborers, the homeless, and those living in night shelters, to ensure they can participate in the revision process. The Commission also decided to form a committee, including independent experts from IIT/IIIT, to review the ECINet system to ensure compliance with statutory provisions.
