Elections Alberta announces polling locations for October referendum

Elections Alberta has released the locations of more than 1,400 polling stations ahead of the October 19 referendum. The 10-question referendum will determine if Albertans wish to remain in Canada or hold a second, binding vote regarding secession from Confederation.

To facilitate voting, the agency has established 310 polling stations for an advanced voting period scheduled from October 13 to October 17. Residents can locate their specific polling station via the Elections Alberta website or by using the “Where to Vote” cards sent through the mail.

Addressing online misinformation, Elections Alberta clarified that special-ballot applications undergo multiple verification steps. The agency rejected claims that non-residents can easily obtain ballots, stating that applications require a valid voter record match and mandatory identification, similar to in-person voting requirements. As of last week, over 520,000 people had applied to vote by mail, with the deadline for mail-in applications set for this Friday.
