Elections Alberta flags 3,000 faulty mail-in ballots
Elections Alberta has reported that more than 3,000 mail-in ballot packages for the upcoming October 19 referendum have been flagged as invalid. The issues include missing declaration forms, errors, or identification problems.
Officials stated that affected voters still have time to rectify these issues by submitting the correct information via email. This announcement comes as the agency works through the verification of approximately one-third of the 652,000 ballot packages sent to eligible voters.
The referendum will determine whether Albertans wish to remain in Canada or initiate a process toward a second, binding referendum regarding leaving Confederation. These ballot errors follow previous administrative challenges, including outdated declaration wording and missing ballot pages.
