Electoral authorities in Ecuador and Peru advance election preparations
Electoral authorities in Ecuador and Peru are advancing preparations for upcoming elections through citizen selection and logistical deployment.
In Ecuador, the National Electoral Council (CNE) has finalized the selection of polling station members. In Chimborazo, 8,792 citizens were chosen via an algorithmic process to manage 1,256 polling stations. In Cotopaxi, 8,330 members were selected, with university students comprising 67% of the group. Nationally, approximately 288,949 citizens have been designated to serve as polling station members, including over 3,400 from abroad.
In Peru, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has begun transporting training materials to 125 decentralized offices to prepare for the regional and municipal elections on October 4. This includes deploying 47 offices in the Mariscal Cáceres region to ensure participation in remote areas. Additionally, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) announced that electoral debates for the 2026 elections will begin on September 8, covering various regions including Junín, Ica, and Cusco, with special multi-day sessions planned for Lima due to the high number of participating political organizations.
