Electoral Public Ministry bans campaigning at construction sites
The Electoral Public Ministry (MPE) has issued guidance to the Construction Industry Union of João Pessoa (Sinduscon-JP) prohibiting candidates, pre-candidates, and political agents from conducting election campaigns at construction sites.
The recommendation follows an inquiry by the union regarding whether such locations could be used to present proposals and solicit votes from workers. The MPE clarified that visits for electoral propaganda, including speeches, campaign meetings, and the distribution of campaign materials, are forbidden in workplaces. This prohibition remains in effect even if the employer provides explicit authorization.
Based on TSE Resolution No. 23.610/2019, the rules aim to prevent electoral harassment in the labor environment. While politicians may visit sites for strictly professional, technical, or private reasons, they are prohibited from organizing electoral meetings, using employee contact lists, or using corporate messaging groups to promote candidates or pressure subordinates for votes.
