Electoral authorities in Ecuador, Honduras, and Peru manage election preparations

Electoral authorities in Ecuador, Honduras, and Peru are managing various administrative and legal challenges ahead of upcoming elections.

In Ecuador, the National Electoral Council (CNE) denied the candidacy of Jaime Estrada Medranda for the Prefectura of Manabí. The decision, reached via a tie-breaking vote, followed an objection by the ADN movement. The CNE ruled that Estrada failed to formalize a new acceptance act after a previous resignation, meaning his second attempt at registration did not meet legal requirements.

In Honduras, current CNE counselors will remain in their positions despite the expiration of their temporary authorization decree. While they continue to serve, their powers may be limited to administrative functions until the National Congress reaches a consensus on new appointments.

In Peru, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) is addressing several issues regarding the 2026 regional and municipal elections. The JNE is set to debate whether sitting mayors running as first councilors can receive credentials. Additionally, the JNE has scheduled a second negotiation meeting with political organizations to finalize the organization of the Lima Metropolitan mayoral debate.
