Electric bus adoption grows in Central European transport sectors
Electric bus implementation is expanding in Central Europe, with significant operational updates from both regional and international transport providers.
In the Czech Republic, the Dopravní společnost Zlín – Otrokovice (DSZO) reported that its seven new electric buses completed their first month of service, averaging 5,000 kilometers each in September. Management noted that the vehicles are operating without issues and offer operating costs approximately 50% lower than diesel-powered alternatives. The fleet modernization aims to reduce environmental impact and noise while improving passenger and driver satisfaction.
In the cross-border sector, FlixBus has launched a primarily electric line between Vienna and Bratislava. Operated by Blaguss using eight Chinese-made Yutong T12E electric buses, the service covers 90% of the planned 66 daily trips. These buses feature a 466 kWh battery capacity and an estimated range of 500 km. The project utilizes new charging infrastructure in both Vienna and Bratislava, supported by photovoltaic systems and battery storage, and is co-financed by the European Union and national agencies.
