Electric motorcycle manufacturers in Indonesia adopt lithium battery technology

The electric motorcycle market in Indonesia is seeing a shift toward lithium-based battery technologies, specifically Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) and standard Lithium batteries. LFP batteries are gaining traction due to their enhanced safety profile, as they are less prone to explosions and typically only leak liquid if damaged. They also offer a longer lifespan, estimated between 6 to 10 years, though they are generally heavier and larger than Nickel (NMC) alternatives. Brands utilizing LFP technology in Indonesia include Alva, Maka, Omoway, Polytron, Selis, and Volta.

In a strategic move toward technological standardization, PT Terang Dunia Internusa Tbk, through its United E-Motor brand, has announced that its entire product line will transition to lithium battery technology by September 2026. The company aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce weight, and optimize vehicle performance and range through this transition.
