Automotive sector sees EV expansion and leadership shifts

The automotive and electric vehicle (EV) sectors are seeing significant activity in Indonesia and globally. At the GIIAS Surabaya 2026 event, VinFast showcased its electric vehicle ecosystem, including the VF 3, VF 6, VF 7, and the locally produced VF MPV 7, alongside its Green commercial vehicle line.

In the corporate sector, PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR) reported a 45.83% year-on-year revenue increase to Rp 2.59 trillion for the first half of 2026, driven by infrastructure and manufacturing. However, the company recorded a net loss of Rp 224.81 billion, attributed to rising interest rates affecting its toll road subsidiary, PT Cimanggis Cibitung Tollways.

Regarding the EV market, several affordable electric motorcycle options are emerging in the Rp 10 million range, featuring technologies such as fast charging and battery swapping systems from brands like Uwinfly and Smoot.

Globally, TVS Motor Company announced that Peyman Kargar will succeed K. N. Radhakrishnan as CEO effective January 27, 2027. Kargar, previously the President of International Business, aims to aggressively expand the Indian manufacturer's global footprint following a fiscal year that saw 5.9 million units sold.
