Electric motorcycle trends shift in Indonesia

The electric motorcycle market in Indonesia is seeing shifts in consumer behavior regarding both purchasing methods and vehicle conversion. As environmental awareness grows, consumers are weighing the benefits of cash purchases versus credit. Cash purchases avoid interest and monthly installments, while credit offers a more realistic entry point for those with limited immediate capital, provided they can manage administrative fees and interest rates.

Simultaneously, the trend of converting gasoline-powered motorcycles to electric power has seen a significant decline. Adi Siswanto, owner of the Ministry of Transportation-certified Dyvolt EV Shop, attributes this downturn to unclear government incentives and the increasing affordability of new electric motorcycles. Many consumers now find it more cost-effective to purchase new or used electric models rather than paying for conversion services. Currently, conversion interest is largely limited to hobbyists, such as owners of classic Vespa models or trail bikes.
