Electric scooter safety concerns rise in Poland
Recent footage and reports have highlighted significant safety concerns regarding electric scooters in Poland. In Warsaw, video recordings surfaced showing a man riding an electric scooter on Aleja Prymasa Tysiąclecia at speeds approaching 100 km/h, far exceeding the legal limit of 20 km/h.
Beyond individual speeding violations, a growing youth subculture centered around high-powered electric scooters has led to increased accidents. Recent tragedies include a 13-year-old who was killed in Nakło nad Notecią after colliding with a bus at a pedestrian crossing, and another 13-year-old in Bolesławiec who was hospitalized following a fall while riding without a helmet.
Polish regulations mandate a maximum speed of 20 km/h for electric scooters. Users are required to use bicycle paths where available, and may only use roadways if the speed limit is 30 km/h or less.
