Electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure grow in Spain

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is seeing significant shifts in Spain. In the Valencian Community, sales of 100% electric vehicles have increased by 22.8% in 2026, with electric vehicles accounting for over 65% of approximately 85,000 registered cars. This surge is attributed to rising fuel prices driven by Middle East conflicts, making electricity a more cost-effective alternative for consumers.

In the O Salnés region, the charging network has expanded from roughly 20 points in mid-2023 to over 70 active points. While the number of charging stations has grown, there remains a shortage of ultra-fast charging stations. Current infrastructure varies significantly in speed, ranging from older 4 kW chargers to newer 150 kW stations installed by the Mancomunidade do Salnés. Charging costs also fluctuate based on speed, with slow charging averaging 47 cents per kWh and ultra-fast charging reaching approximately 60 cents per kWh.
