Electric vehicle charging and resale value trends in France
New developments in the French electric vehicle (EV) market are focusing on long-term value retention and simplified charging infrastructure for professionals.
To maintain resale value, analysts suggest that upcoming electric city cars must meet four key criteria: clear battery warranties, fast DC charging of at least 100 kW, a WLTP range exceeding 400 km, and practical utility such as five seats and a trunk capacity over 300 liters. The Volkswagen ID. Polo and Renault 5 E-Tech are identified as strong contenders in these categories, offering 8-year/160,000 km battery warranties.
Simultaneously, TotalEnergies, Allego, and Powerdot have formed a strategic alliance to streamline charging for corporate fleets. By leveraging TotalEnergies’ Fleet card, which provides access to over 200,000 charging points in France, the partnership aims to offer 'hidden time' charging. This allows employees to charge vehicles while shopping or dining at locations managed by Allego and Powerdot. The alliance also seeks to reduce costs through negotiated preferential rates and algorithms that direct drivers to cheaper, underutilized chargers.
