Electric vehicle charging costs vary significantly by provider
A report from the Adiconsum Observatory regarding public electric vehicle charging in July 2026 highlights significant price discrepancies for consumers. Data shows that the cost of charging an electric car can vary by nearly 70% even when using the exact same charging station.
This price variation occurs because the company owning the hardware (Charge Point Operator or CPO) and the company providing the service via an app (E-Mobility Service Provider or EMSP) are often different entities. Drivers can choose between using the station owner's app or a third-party roaming app, each applying different commercial terms.
For example, at an urban AC charging station up to 22 kW managed by Enel X Way, charging via the EVDCharge app costs between 0.39 and 0.60 euros per kWh, while using Repower costs 0.66 euros per kWh.
