Electric vehicle complaints rise in Portugal
Consumer complaints regarding electric vehicles in Portugal have increased significantly, nearly tripling over a two-year period. Data from Portal da Queixa shows that between January and July 2026, 205 complaints were recorded, compared to 75 during the same period in 2024, representing a 173% increase.
Most grievances are centered on the after-sales experience. Repair and maintenance account for 40% of complaints, while customer service and service quality represent 32%. Together, these two categories constitute 72% of all reported issues. Other concerns include product quality and safety (16%), financial and payment matters (6%), and legal or contractual issues (6%).
BYD Auto and Tesla are the most frequently cited brands, accounting for 17% and 15% of the complaints, respectively. While 71% of complaints are directed at the automotive brands themselves, 18% are aimed at dealerships. Geographically, the majority of complaints (55.77%) originate from Lisbon and Porto, followed by Setúbal and Braga.
