Electric vehicle sales reach new records in Denmark and Norway
Electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to reach record levels across Northern Europe. In Norway, EVs achieved a 98.8 percent market share of new passenger car registrations in September, with the Tesla Model Y being the most registered model. The total number of electric passenger cars on Norwegian roads has reached over one million, accounting for 35.3 percent of the national fleet.
Denmark also reported a record in September, where EVs accounted for 88.8 percent of all new car registrations. However, industry group Mobility Denmark has expressed concern regarding upcoming policy changes. From January 1, 2027, the threshold for registration tax on EVs is set to lower, which could increase costs for several popular models.
In Sweden, Tesla has seen a significant recovery. After a period of declining sales in 2025, the Tesla Model Y became the country’s best-selling car in September 2026. This turnaround is part of a broader trend in Europe, where Tesla’s registrations increased significantly in markets such as Portugal and France, outperforming the overall EV market growth in the EU, UK, and EFTA regions.
