Electric vehicle technology advances in long-distance transport and range

Developments in electric vehicle technology are increasingly targeting long-distance transport and extended driving ranges. At the Průmyslový Summit 2026, David Chleboun of Daimler Truck Czech Republic noted that the industry has moved past debating the viability of electromobility and is now focused on practical implementation and infrastructure solutions.

Daimler Truck highlighted the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, an electric heavy-duty truck designed for long-haul tasks. Equipped with LFP batteries exceeding 600 kWh capacity, the vehicle can transport a 40-ton load for approximately 500 km on a single charge and supports charging power of up to 1 MW.

In the passenger vehicle sector, a specialized long-wheelbase BMW i3 50L, designed for the Chinese market, completed a 1,213 km journey on a single charge. The test drive, which started in the Czech Republic and ended on the Croatian coast, concluded with 1% battery remaining. While the vehicle utilized a 113.4 kWh battery, the manufacturer noted the result represents a technical maximum under specific conditions rather than a standard consumer guarantee.
