China electric vehicles dominate top 10 best-selling car rankings

Electric vehicles have achieved total dominance in China's top-selling car rankings for August. Nine of the ten best-selling models were exclusively battery-powered, marking the second time in 2026 that no purely gasoline-powered vehicle reached the top ten list.

The Geely EX2 (known as Xingyuan in China) led the market with 39,651 units sold. It was followed by the Leapmotor A10 with 30,652 units and the Tesla Model Y with 29,260 units. Other notable models in the top ten included the Fang Cheng Bao Ti7, BYD Atto 2, Tesla Model 3, Changan Nevo Q05, Li Auto i6, BYD Dolphin, and the Xiaomi SU7.

The only model in the top ten with a non-exclusive electric powertrain was the Fang Cheng Bao Ti7, which offers both electric and plug-in hybrid configurations; 55% of its deliveries were in the electric setup. Traditional internal combustion engine models, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross, failed to break into the top ten, with the Corolla Cross ranking 13th.
