Electric vehicles expand into mobile power sources as Geely develops ultra-fast charging

The role of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) is expanding beyond transportation to serve as mobile power sources. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) offer massive battery capacities compared to standard portable power stations, making them useful for outdoor activities, disaster relief, and home power support through Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) systems. While BEVs provide high capacity, PHEVs offer the advantage of dual energy sources, allowing for continuous power generation using both electricity and fuel.

In terms of infrastructure development, Chinese automaker Geely is developing an 1800kW ultra-fast charger. This technology aims to charge EV batteries in approximately five minutes, potentially outperforming BYD’s ‘Flash’ technology. This high-output charging solution is expected to be introduced in markets including Europe and the United Kingdom within the next few years.
