Electrical safety concerns prompt action in Mexico and Peru
In Mexico, the Movimiento Ciudadano party has formally requested that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) increase transparency regarding hazardous electrical installations. State coordinator Vida Gómez Herrera submitted a request for detailed reports on exposed cables, electrical accidents, and response protocols recorded between January 2024 and September 2026. The initiative seeks to understand how the utility responds to citizen reports and to ensure public safety in Yucatecan municipalities.
In Peru, the utility company Enosa conducted a preventive operation in the Veintiséis de Octubre district of Piura, removing over 2,500 meters of clandestine cabling. The removal of copper and concentric cables aims to mitigate the risk of electric shocks, short circuits, and fires, which are heightened by recent heavy rains and standing water. Enosa stated it will continue these operations to eliminate irregular connections and will pursue legal action against energy theft.
