Spain electricity prices projected to exceed 100 euros in August

Electricity prices for consumers on the regulated PVPC tariff in Spain are projected to exceed 100 euros for the month of August, marking the first time this threshold has been crossed in four years. According to estimates from Facua Consumidores en Acción, if current trends from the first half of the month persist, the average bill for a typical user will reach approximately 101.23 euros.

Data shows significant price volatility throughout the day. While midday periods often see lower costs due to solar energy production, prices can spike sharply in the evening. For instance, on August 18, 2026, the average price was expected to drop to 187.03 euros/MWh, yet a peak near 391.03 euros/MWh was forecasted for the 21:00 to 22:00 window.

This rise in wholesale market prices is expected to benefit major energy companies listed on the Ibex 35, including Iberdrola, Endes, and Naturgy, by increasing revenue per megawatt produced. Compared to August 2025, energy costs have seen substantial year-on-year increases, particularly in the valley and off-peak periods.
