Electrolux Cerreto d'Esi plant stays open after Urso blocks closure

Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso told a parliamentary hearing that the Electrolux plant in Cerreto d'Esi will continue operating at full capacity and that no closure procedure has been started. The government halted the company's original plan, which had envisaged 1,700 layoffs nationwide and the shutdown of the Marche facility, and urged a new proposal that secures employment prospects. Urso also referenced Electrolux’s recent partnership with China’s Midea Group in North America and possible extensions to the EU, noting the broader market dynamics affecting the sector.

At the same time, factories across the Fabriano district are scheduling summer shutdowns. The Beko plant in Melano will close from 10‑25 August with partial work‑sharing, while the Electrolux site in Cerreto d'Esi will run at 50 % capacity and observe a collective break from 10‑14 August. Industry representatives warn that rising costs, geopolitical pressures and a contracting market could further weaken Italian and European appliance production, calling for urgent structural industrial policies.
