Electrolux industrial crisis prompts Italian government and regional coordination

The industrial dispute involving Electrolux has entered a decisive phase, prompting coordinated action between the Italian government and regional leaders. Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, has held video conferences with the presidents of Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Marche, and Emilia-Romagna to establish a unified strategy to protect Italian production sites and employment.

Regional leaders, including Friuli-Venezia Giulia Governor Massimiliano Fedriga, are demanding a credible relaunch plan from the Swedish multinational, emphasizing that plants must focus on growth rather than workforce reduction. The crisis is particularly acute in Cerreto d’Esi, where the confirmed closure of the plant threatens 170 jobs, leading to strikes and industrial unrest.

Simultaneously, labor tensions are rising at the Beko plant in Melano. Workers have organized protests and strikes, citing a lack of progress on industrial and employment guarantees despite a 2025 agreement. Unions report critical production levels and the use of redundancy funds, demanding structural improvements and investment certainty.

On a broader scale, the Italian government is promoting a 'non-paper' to the European Commission to seek urgent measures for the European home appliance sector, aiming to bolster continental production competitiveness.
