Electrolux faces union backlash over 1,250 planned redundancies

Electrolux is facing significant labor disputes following the presentation of an industrial plan that includes 1,250 redundancies, plus workers on fixed-term contracts who will not be renewed. Italian trade unions, including Fim-Fiom, Uilm, and UglM, have criticized the scale of the cuts, describing the company's required 7% annual efficiency increases as “abnormal.”

The layoffs are distributed across several Italian sites. For production workers, cuts include 191 in Susegana, 166 in Porcia, 146 in Forlì, 77 in Cerreto d’Esi, and 50 in Solaro. White-collar redundancies include 246 in Porcia and Pordenone, 173 in Susegana, 87 in Forlì, and 68 in Cerreto d’Esi.

Unions are demanding improvements to the industrial plan, specifically requesting that the full production of washer-dryers be maintained in Porcia. They are also calling for the government to refinance expansion contracts to facilitate both early retirement and the hiring of new staff. Regarding the Cerreto d’Esi plant, management has expressed readiness to ensure production continuity until alternative solutions are implemented, though unions are seeking binding commitments.
