Electrolux layoffs dispute in Porcia prompts regional council motion and call for Prime Minister intervention

The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional council voted unanimously for a motion urging the regional government to pursue the withdrawal of Electrolux’s announced restructuring plan for its Porcia plant, which would cut over 1,700 jobs and affect the wider industrial supply chain. The motion was backed by all political groups, emphasizing the importance of protecting employment, Made‑in‑Italy production and regional industrial heritage.

Deputy Debora Serracchiani (PD), former FVG president, addressed workers at the plant, saying, “AI lavoratori portiamo solidarietà ma anche un messaggio chiaro: il piano industriale presentato dall’azienda va assolutamente ritirato e la presidente del Consiglio Meloni deve farsi carico direttamente di Electrolux.” She urged Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to intervene, citing broader market challenges, energy costs and the need for European‑level industrial policy, and recalling the 2014 settlement of a similar dispute.

The council’s motion calls for dialogue with the national government and social partners to secure a sustainable industrial project for Porcia, highlighting the social and economic stakes of the proposed layoffs.
