Electrolux and Ericsson revise Italian restructuring plans following government intervention

Major industrial disputes involving Swedish multinationals Electrolux and Ericsson in Italy have reached a turning point following government intervention.

After direct communication from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ericsson has withdrawn its collective dismissal procedure for 131 employees at its Genoa site. The company intends to replace forced layoffs with a plan for incentivized voluntary departures to manage restructuring.

Simultaneously, Electrolux has revised its restructuring plan for its Italian operations. Moving away from its initial proposal of up to 1,700 redundancies, the company now plans 1,250 voluntary exits over a three-year period, consisting of 650 workers and 600 employees. This new plan includes approximately 90 million euros in investments to support industrial transition and production of high-end appliances.

While the future of the Cerreto d'Esi plant remains a point of negotiation, the company is exploring a reindustrialization path. Industry Minister Adolfo Urso has scheduled a follow-up meeting for October 29 to finalize the details of these agreements.
