Electrolux suspends 1,700 layoffs in Italy, agrees 50‑day pause for talks

Electrolux announced a plan to cut about 1,700 jobs and close the Cerreto d’Esi plant in Italy. After a summit at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) chaired by minister Adolfo Urso, the company agreed to suspend all dismissals and closures for 50 days and to join a series of further talks with unions, regional authorities and industry groups.

Lombardy’s regional labour assessor Simona Tironi praised the suspension, emphasizing that the goal remains to preserve existing jobs at the Solaro plant and to seek public investment that could keep the site competitive. Unions described the agreement as a “truce” while local officials, such as the mayor of Forlì, expressed moderate satisfaction, noting that about 400 jobs in that plant are at risk. The pause is intended to allow a new sustainable industrial proposal to be developed.

The suspension applies to all Italian regions involved—Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, Emilia‑Romagna and Marche—while the company pledged not to take unilateral action during the negotiation period.
