Electrolux confirms industrial plan involving 1,450 job cuts in Italy

Electrolux has confirmed an industrial plan in Italy that involves 1,450 job cuts nationwide, alongside 135 fixed-term contracts that will not be renewed. The plan includes the closure of the Cerreto d’Esi plant and significant workforce reductions in Forlì, where 297 jobs are at risk.

Labor unions, including Fiom, Cgil, Cisl, and Uil, have denounced the plan as “unacceptable.” Beyond the layoffs, workers are protesting a proposed increase in production speed, which would raise assembly rates from 90 to 140 pieces per hour—roughly one piece every 25 seconds. Unions also noted that the company has reportedly moved away from previous agreements regarding new production lines in Solaro.

In response to the confirmed plan following recent meetings with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, workers have organized a national strike and demonstrations scheduled for September 15. Unions are calling for institutional intervention to protect employment and the strategic importance of the appliance sector.
