Elektroprivreda Srbije reports profit amid workforce decline

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) reported a profit of 17.5 billion dinars for the first half of 2026, exceeding initial plans. According to General Director Dušan Živković, this financial result was driven largely by lower operating costs and reduced financing expenses.

However, the report highlights a significant reduction in staff, with employee costs being 8% lower than planned. The company saw a higher turnover than anticipated, with nearly 10% more workers leaving than originally projected. Among the 31 employees who resigned in the last six months, 17 were highly qualified engineers, alongside two economists and two lawyers.

Additionally, more employees have entered retirement than management expected, particularly within programs allowing for voluntary retirement. These trends have contributed to an increasingly unfavorable age structure within the company's workforce.
