Elektroprivreda Srbije revitalizes Bajina Bašta and plans Bistrica plant
Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has completed a 35 million euro revitalization of the Bajina Bašta pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant (RHE). This project extends the facility's operational lifespan by 30 to 40 years. As Serbia's only plant of its kind, the 614 MW facility serves as a critical component for balancing the national power grid, particularly by storing energy during periods of high solar and wind production to be used during peak demand.
Looking forward, EPS is investing in the construction of the new RHE Bistrica. This strategic project is described as the company's most significant investment, intended to facilitate the integration of up to 1,500 MW of new renewable energy sources. Once completed, the Bistrica plant is expected to provide approximately 660 MW of capacity and an annual production of roughly 1,600 gigawatt-hours.
