Renewable energy and ecological projects in Balkans

Overview

Renewable energy and ecological initiatives are advancing across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the 9.9 MW DeLasol North solar plant in Lapovo has been commissioned by MT-KOMEX. Nova Alumina is nearing completion of its 19 MWp solar project, expected by October 15. Additionally, Elektroprivreda BiH has signed a 53 million convertible marks contract with Girisim Elektrik Sanayi to develop the 50 MWp Gračanica 1 and 2 photovoltaic plants on a former coal mine landfill, supported by the EBRD and UniCredit Bank.

In the energy sector, Bechtel and ENKA are the sole bidders for the €2.6 billion Đerdap 3 hydroelectric project. Furthermore, Elektroprivreda Srbije completed a €35 million revitalization of the 614 MW Bajina Bašta pumped-storage plant and is planning the new 660 MW Bistrica plant to facilitate the integration of 1,500 MW of renewable energy.
