Alexander Zverev defends Grand Slam success amid rival injury debate

Alexander Zverev has faced significant scrutiny following his two Grand Slam titles in 2026 at the French Open and US Open. Critics have questioned whether his success was due to the injury-plagued absences of top rivals Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

Mischa Zverev, acting as his brother's manager, has defended the achievements, stating that being fit and available is a merit in itself. Former champion Boris Becker also voiced support, calling the dismissal of Zverev's performance an ‘absolute disgrace’ and ‘incredible disrespect’ toward his consistency.

Beyond the debate over his rivals, Zverev has maintained a demanding schedule, including a victory for Germany in the Davis Cup and participation in the Laver Cup. His season has been marked by both high-level sporting success and intense media focus on his personal life and off-court controversies.
