Elephant Sulong reportedly nears Gua Musang after long journey
An elephant believed to be named Sulong is reportedly making its way toward Gua Musang, Kelantan, following social media reports suggesting the animal has reached the Jeli area. This movement follows a translocation operation by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), which had previously moved the elephant from Chalil, Gua Musang, to the Gerik area in Perak.
Sulong, an adult male, is known to have an injury to his front right leg. While the injury has been visible in various videos, officials report that his physical condition and behavior remain normal, with the wound showing signs of healing. Despite efforts by PERHILITAN to guide the elephant back into the forest, the animal has repeatedly returned to road areas, including the East-West Highway (JRTB).
While social media users have shared sightings of the elephant traveling slowly near Jeli and Titiwangsa, official confirmation regarding the exact current location and distance remaining to Gua Musang has not yet been released by PERHILITAN.
