Eli Lilly drug combinations show significant weight loss in clinical trials

Clinical trials for several experimental weight-loss drugs have reported significant results for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Eli Lilly’s combination therapy, EloraTZP (eloralintide and tirzepatide), demonstrated substantial efficacy in a phase 2b study. Participants receiving the highest dose achieved an average weight reduction of 23.3% over 48 weeks, alongside significant improvements in glycemic control, measured by HbA1c levels.

Other investigational treatments also showed promise. Petrelintide, a once-weekly amylin analogue, achieved up to 10.7% weight loss in adults with overweight or obesity during the phase 2 ZUPREME 1 trial. Additionally, retatrutid, which targets three biochemical pathways, showed a 25% average weight loss after 80 weeks in a phase 3 study, while also potentially reducing knee pain and sleep apnea symptoms.

Common side effects across these treatments primarily involve gastrointestinal issues, such as nausea, which were generally reported as mild to moderate.
