Eli Lilly obesity drug retatrutide shows record weight loss in trials

Eli Lilly is developing retatrutide, a new obesity medication that has shown significant results in Phase III clinical trials. In the Triumph-1 study, the substance achieved an average body mass reduction of 28.3 percent after 80 weeks of use.

This level of weight loss is comparable to the effects of bariatric surgery. The drug, often referred to as ‘Triple G’, works by activating three different receptors to control appetite, satiety, and metabolism. This distinguishes it from existing treatments like Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy, which activates one receptor, or Eli Lilly’s own Mounjaro, which activates two.
