Eli Lilly weight-loss drug combination shows significant results
A new study indicates that combining Eli Lilly’s weight-loss drug tirzepatide (Zepbound) with an experimental injection called eloralintide significantly increases weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes.
In the clinical trial, patients receiving the highest dose of the combination therapy lost an average of 23.3% of their body weight over approximately 11 months. This compares to an average weight loss of 14.8% for those taking tirzepatide alone. Middle doses resulted in roughly 20% weight loss, while the lowest doses saw an average reduction of 13.2%.
Eloralintide works by mimicking amylin, a hormone that signals fullness after eating. Analysts noted that a weight loss exceeding 18% would represent a significant success for the company.
