Nepal flash floods leave 579 dead and 1,924 missing FAST-MOVING

Devastating flash floods in central Nepal, triggered by a glacier collapse and subsequent debris flows, have resulted in at least 579 confirmed deaths and left approximately 1,924 people missing. The disaster has heavily impacted the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river regions, destroying infrastructure, bridges, and roads.

Among the missing are hundreds of foreign nationals, including 320 Indian citizens and numerous tourists from over 30 countries. Many workers from hydropower projects are also unaccounted for. In response, Nepal has accepted international assistance, with India providing medical teams, rescue equipment, and relief supplies.

Rescue operations are ongoing, utilizing helicopters and ground teams, though efforts have faced challenges due to the threat of secondary flooding from temporary lakes formed by debris. Local authorities in Chitwan have established temporary morgues to manage the high number of recovered bodies as hospital capacities are exceeded.
