Ella Beatty in final talks to join Billie Eilish for Focus Features' The Bell Jar adaptation

Actress Ella Beatty is in the last stage of negotiations to appear in the film adaptation of Sylvia Plath's novel *The Bell Jar*. She would join singer‑songwriter Billie Eilish, cast as the novel’s protagonist Esther Greenwood in her acting debut, and Carey Mulligan, who will play Greenwood’s mother.

The project is being directed and scripted by Oscar‑winner Sarah Polley and will be produced by Focus Features in partnership with Plan B Entertainment, Joy Coalition and StudioCanal. The novel, first published in 1963, is a semi‑autobiographical work depicting a young woman's mental‑health decline.
